Bob, I am so very sorry for the loss of your beloved brother. I did not know Hamp well but in the short time I did, I felt the comfort of being with an old friend. We have lost a sweet, gentle man.

Hamilton will always be remembered by me and all his friends from El Dorado as "Hamp." In football I was on injured reserve while he was All-State. In choir, Hamp was the appreciative audience at practice and concerts while I was All-State. We were college roommates, an experience over which we shall draw a discreet curtain-but gosh we had fun. I loved Hamp for his quiet strength, his depth of thought, and his solid determination. And he did teach me the perfect way to pack a beer chest.

Hamp was a person whose smile, voice, wisdom, and humor brought an immediate feeling of bonhomie and well being to every room he entered. As the song says, "It was a party just to be near him." He and I were best friends from the time I was five and he was four, and that friendship has remained throughout our lives. When I try to think of something adequate to say about Hamp, I keep thinking of what Hamlet said about his beloved father: "He was a man, take him for all and all. I shall not look upon his like again." Hamp will always be loved and never forgotten by Johnny and me.
