Mrs. Esther Heckendorn (Chestnut)

Mrs. Esther Heckendorn, 81, formerly of Newville peacefully entered into rest on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at God’s Haven of Rest assisted living facility in North Augusta SC.

Mrs. Heckendorn was born on February 15, 1935 in Little Washington, PA the daughter of Harry and Irene (Barrick) Chestnut. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years Mr. Harold “Pete” Heckendorn; three brothers: Fred Chestnut, William Chestnut and Henry Chestnut; and a sister, Dorothy Miller.

She is survived by two sons, Kevin H. Heckendorn and his wife Debra L, North Augusta SC and Kim A. Heckendorn, Newville, PA; two grandchildren, Ryan B. Heckendorn and his wife Holly, Raven Heckendorn Walker and her husband Devin; and four great-grandchildren: Avari Walker, Killian Walker, Samantha Heckendorn and Aerilyn Walker.

She enjoyed a variety of interests during her lifetime. She raised dogs for many years, helped manage the family businesses, worked at her greenhouse growing flowers for herself and others, enjoyed spending time with and taking care of her family, “hanging out” with her friends at Fremont’s, long walks around her little town of Newville which she loved dearly. Thank you for taking care of her when she was confused.

Mrs. Heckendorn wished to be cremated and a celebration of her life with family and friends will be held Saturday, September 10, 2016 from 10:00am - 11:15am at the Egger Funeral Home, 15 West Big Spring Ave., Newville, PA followed by burial at the Newville cemetery with the Rev. Wayne Good officiating. A reception will be held at the Newville VFW Post 6070 after the ceremony.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
