Shirley A. Heberlig, a Newville native, passed away at Sarah Todd Memorial Home in Carlisle on April 12, 2025.

    She was born on August 17, 1935 on Broad Street in Newville, the oldest child of Clarence P. and Anna K. Wagner Hollenbaugh. Shirley was a kind and considerate person who was loved and appreciated by family and many friends.

     Shirley enjoyed growing up with her classmates in Newville during the 1940's and 1950's. She was a cheerleader and enjoyed swimming and sledding during the seasons. She graduated in 1953 and later attended Carlisle Business School where she graduated as a secretary. She worked at the law ofice of Landis and Macintosh before marrying Navy Ensign Aviator Edgar S. Heberlig. She was a military spouse with stops in Florida and Texas before a final duty station in San Diego, California. Shirley returned to Newville in February 1960 living on Main Street, until her move to Big Spring Heights in October 1961.

     Living in the Big Spring Heights Shirley raised two sons while enjoying a simple home life. Many friends would visit her, especially after she became seriously ill. She loved to read, watch television, and picnic with family. She adored cats and girls' days out with her dear friends Lisa Woltz and Nancy Shively. In her later years, she lived on Parsonage Street in Newville and at the East Gate Apartments in Carlisle where she cultivated more lasting friendships.

    Shirley's memory will be forever cherished by her surviving relatives, including her two sons Kirk and Eric Heberlig and their wives Cheryl and Alina, devoted brother and sister-in-law Jim and Rachel Hollenbaugh, grandson Kevin Heberlig, granddaughters Alyssa Demeo and Hannah Heberlig, and nephew Jim Hollenbaugh and niece Britt.

    No services are planned burial is private. Memorial contributions in her memory may be made to Sarah Todd Memorial Home 1000 West South Street Carlisle, PA 17013. Arrangements have be entrusted to Egger Funeral Home of Newville.
