Sharon Kay Caldwell Rand, 76, a loving wife, daughter, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend, died December 31, 2023, at the Penn State Holy Spirit Hospital, surrounded by her loving husband, best friend, and soul mate David Rand, daughter Kelly, son-in-law Robert Bales Jr., and loving grandson Lucas Bales.
Her angel family who preceded her in death - son Neal Rand, grandson Jake Bales, bonus granddaughter Alicia Nicholson and many others - were there as well to welcome her home.
Born September 5, 1947 to Pauline and Charles (Bud) Caldwell, Sharon was a lifelong resident of Newville, Pa. She was a lifelong Bulldog, graduating from Big Spring High School in 1965. Following four years at Shippensburg teacher college, Sharon then became an educator in the Big Spring School District dedicating 35 years of her adult life to educating children of the Newville area. Sharon began her teaching journey at Mifflin Elementary School where she taught first and third grade students the joys of learning. Sharon spent her remaining years at Oak Flat Elementary School as the district’s first IST instructor, building the program that brought teachers and families together to support students in their educational success. Not only did she love educating children, she was a knowledgeable mentor to her colleagues. Though she wore many hats in her years within the district, one of her greatest joys was being able to observe children’s eyes light up as they reached their a-ha moment!
Sharon was a talented artist who enjoyed painting with friends at the Newville Senior Center. She enjoyed painting, crafting, crocheting, knitting, reading, writing, and spending time with family.
Sharon is also survived by loving sisters Kitty Seibert and Sally (Phillip) Beierschmitt of Carlisle; nieces and nephews Brandon Seibert, Amanda (Brad) Seibert, Trevor Beierschmitt, Taylor (Chad) Goodhart; bonus grandchild Robert (Cassie) Bales III; bonus great grandchildren Jet, Aaliyah, Annabelle, Tre, and Zoey; many cousins; and countless wonderful friends.
A memorial service will be held at the Big Spring Presbyterian Church 25 South Corporation St. Newville, on Saturday, January 20, 2024. Visitation will be held from 12:30-2 p.m. followed by a celebration of life service at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Paw Packs of Big Spring School District, Suicide Prevention Alliance, the American Lung Association, or a charity of choice.
Checks should be made payable to the PAW Packs Program. All monetary donations will be acknowledged with a receipt.
