Ruthanne Batcheller Pitkin, 80, passed away on November 13, 2024, at Swaim Health Center in Newville, PA. Born on October 10, 1944, in Springfield, MA, she earned a B.S. in Zoology from UMass in 1966, where she met her husband, Bernie Pitkin.
Ruthanne earned graduate degrees in Biological Oceanography and Biology and taught at various institutions in Massachusetts and Pennsylvania, retiring from Shippensburg University in 2006. Ruthanne loved music, reading and the outdoors. She was an avid gardener and volunteered at Kings Gap Educational Center. She is survived by her husband, Bernie; son, Matthew (Michelle) and granddaughter Katya; and daughter, Janet (Douglas) and granddaughter Rachel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Friends of Kings Gap: friendsofkingsgap.org. A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at Green Ridge Village in the Spring.
