Obituary

    Robert Lantz Miller died peacefully surrounded by loved ones in Newville, PA, on September 16, 2023, at age 95.

    He was born May 10, 1928, to Dr. Roy and Florence Lantz Miller and graduated from Shamokin Area High School in Shamokin, PA. He was a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD, Class of 1951, and was on the 1949 national championship lacrosse team. Bob served on a destroyer during the Korean War and later had a career in submarines, attaining the rank of Commander. Duties included a tour in Argentina and command of the USS BANG (SS-385).

    During shore duty in Washington, D.C., he met the love of his life, the former Marilyn Kramersmeier of Ledyard, IA, and they were married in Washington on August 6, 1960. He retired from the Navy in 1973 and then began a second career with Merrill Lynch for 15 years. He capped his endeavors with 12 years as Trustee and Chairman of the Board of Presbyterian Homes, Inc. He was an elder in the Presbyterian Church, a member of Lions International and a lifetime member of the Naval Academy Alumni Association and the American Legion.

    His final 15 years were spent in Newville, PA, in Independent Living at Green Ridge Village. Bob will be remembered for his love of family and his deep Christian faith with its joys from serving the people and communities around him. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, summering since age one in Algonquin Provincial Park in Ontario, Canada, and wintering with Marilyn in Tavares, Florida.

    In addition to his wife of 63 years, he is survived by one daughter, Jeanne Miller David (Eric) of Mechanicsburg, PA; three sons, Dr. Robert Miller, Jr., of Middleburg, PA; Jeffrey Miller of Waltham, MA, and Dr. Christopher Miller of Tavares, FL; two granddaughters, Erika David of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Alicia Settle (Richard) of Dillsburg, PA; and two great granddaughters, Brennan Settle and Miller May Settle. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother Roy Miller, Jr., and daughter-in-law Judy Miller.

  Bob’s life will be celebrated at the First United Presbyterian Church, Newville, PA, at 11am on Saturday, September 30th. The service will be livestreamed at www.youtube.com/@firstunitedpresbyterianchu6916/streams and www.facebook.com/www.1stupnewville.org/. Military honors will immediately follow the service. The interment of ashes will be in the family cemetery in Jacksonburg, WV. 

    Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Presbyterian Church 111 W. Big Spring Ave., Newville, PA 17241, or Green Ridge Village, 210 Big Spring Rd., Newville, PA 17241 for the GRV Fund.
