Robert E. “Gene” Lindsay Sr., 95, of Newville passed away Friday January 11, 2019.
He was born February 5, 1923 in Newville and raised by George W. Lindsay and Flora Shatzer.
Mr. Lindsay is preceded in death by his wife Melvina Meals Lindsay.
He had served as a Tech. Sgt. And Medic in the US Army during WWII.
He was a salesman most of his life , and owned and operated Lindsay Texaco, in Carlisle. In retirement he worked at Tractor Supply in Carlisle.
He was a Life member of Big Spring Methodist Church, and had belonged to the VFW, American Legion having served as Post Commander and Adjutant, and Lions Club where he was a Past President.
He is survived by two sons Robert E. Lindsay Jr. and wife Bonnie of Newville, Richard E. Lindsay and wife Phyllis of Carlisle, one daughter Carole E. Blue and husband Bill of Rohnert Park, CA; 6 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren and one great great grandson on the way.
He is preceded in death by two brothers John and Howard Lindsay.
A visitation will be held Monday January 21, 2019 from 9:30-11:30 AM in Oakville united Methodist Church 519 Oakville Rd. Shippensburg. A funeral service will follow at 11:30 in the church with Pastor Debbie Ryder officiating. Burial with Military honors will follow in Newville Cemetery.
