Margaret S (Smyers) Wolf

Peggy Wolf, 88, passed away June 19, 2026 at Harrisburg Hospital, with her family at her side. Born Margaret Arthur Smyers, in Westfield, New Jersey on April 16, 1938, she graduated from Westfield High School and Penn State University. She married her college sweetheart, Wilbur Wolf Jr. and lived in Maryland, Alabama, Germany, and Virginia before settling at Richland Farm in Carlisle, PA.

Peggy was a voracious reader, a joy-filled singer, and a lover of nature. She cherished opportunities to read children’s books to her family. She loved to mow grass and be in her garden. She has hundreds of plantings, and they each have a story. She participated in and was an advocate for recycling and organic gardening before they were a part of accepted practices by most others. She loved when her “parking lot” at the farm was full, when people stopped by for a cup of coffee, a glass of wine, or to watch an evening primrose open. But perhaps her greatest joy was being a wife, mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Peggy was involved with and fond of so many community organizations in the area and a faithful member of Dickinson Presbyterian Church.

She was able to live on the farm she loved up until the last few days of her life thanks to the daily support from her daughter, Elizabeth. 

She was preceded in death by her husband; three siblings—William Smyers Jr, Ann Livingston, and Flora Bell Lathrop. She is survived by her four children—Kathryn Sekeres (Mark), Wilbur Wolf III (Amy Tuckwiller-Wolf), Rebecca Escott (Dave), (Margaret) Elizabeth Richwine (Tim). Twelve grandchildren—Carrie Sekeres-Perrott (Trevor), Heather Knapp (Arnold), Jacob Sekeres (Braden), Wilbur Craig Wolf (Kira), Rachel Bulow (Mark), Paula Escott, Elizabeth Mirabella (Josh), Dawson Escott (Bella), Kayla Armistead (Matt), Tessa Hein (Blake), Kyle Richwine (Samantha), Trevor Richwine. Eleven great-grandchildren—Isabelle and Art Perrott; Ivan, Emit, and Roy Knapp; Wil, Lanie, and Cami Wolf; Dorothy, Cooper, and Janie Hein. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Mary Anne Smyers and a brother-in-law, Don Lathrop. She enjoyed the faithful companionship of her dog, Sasha. Peggy was very much looking forward to the arrival of two more great-grandchildren later this year.

The family requests that if you knew Peggy through one of the dozens of community groups or met her regularly at a particular place, honor that friendship with a donation rather than spending money on flowers or gifts to the family. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Dickinson Presbyterian Church, 12 Church Road, Carlisle, PA, July 19, 2026 at 3 pm, with visitation prior to the service starting at 1 pm. Visit https://www.eggerfuneralhome.com/ for more details. If you are able to attend the service, the family is inviting people to look around their gardens and to cut a few blooms to contribute to collaborative arrangements made by the guests. Please don’t purchase anything or feel pressure to find something, but if you spy some wildflowers or have perennials in bloom, we know that this would be a perfect touch to the space where we will celebrate Peggy.
