Joan K. Reid, 91, of Carlisle, died Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at the Sarah Todd Memorial Home in Carlisle.
She was born January 15, 1928 in Newville, PA the daughter of Harry E. and Margaret A. (McLaughlin) Kling. Joan was a long time Newville resident. She moved out of Newville late in life to live at Kindred Place at Harrissburg for a few years and then at Sarah Todd Memorial Home in Carlisle, PA.
Mrs. Reid was preceded in death by her husband Markwood C. Reid, who died December 13, 2003.
Mrs. Reid was a 1945 graduate of Newville High School and attended business school in Harrisburg, PA after her high school graduation.
She worked various jobs throughout her life-secretary at the Pepsi bottling plant in Newville, cafeteria worker at Big Spring High School and, finally, a teacher's aide for the Big Spring School District until she retired. But her most cherished role was mother to her four children and Grandmother to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mrs. Reid belonged to the Newville Church of the Brethren where she was a deaconess and active in the Women's Fellowship. During her years living in the Harrisburg area, she was a frequent visitor at Calvary United Methodist Church in Harrisburg.
She is survived by two sons, Markwood C. Reid, Jr. of Harrisburg and Matthew J. Reid of Chandler, AZ; two daughters, Brooke Merring of Venice, FL and Michelle Kelbaugh of Cockeysville, MD; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Lynn El Ikling and a sister, Mary E. (Kling) Hoch.
A funeral service will be held Friday, November 8th at 11 AM in the Newville Church of the Brethren, with the Rev. John Hess officiating. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
