Janet H. “Jan” Mentzer, 96, of Newville passed away Tuesday March 19, 2024 in Green Ridge Village Newville.

    She was born April 5, 1927 in Newville a daughter of James and Lottie Bloser Hemminger.

    Mrs. Mentzer was the widow of Ret. Staff Sergeant Thomas E. “Tom” Mentzer who died June 22, 2014.

     Janet was a 1946 graduate of Newville High School.

    She was a member of Big Spring Presbyterian Church, and was a volunteer at the Newville Food Bank, and Meals on Wheels, and served on the election board.

    She is survived by her sister Isabel Hemminger of Carlisle, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three sisters Martha Hemminger, Mary Miller, and Louetta Love.

    A graveside service will be held Monday April 1, 2024 at 2 PM in Big Spring Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
