Frederick Lee Shriner

July 5, 2023 (age 88) 88 Years Old

Obituary

Frederick Lee Shriner was born on April 1st, 1935, and he died on July 5, 2023 at the age of 88. He was a massive personality and talent that made the whole world his stage. He was a painter, a handy man, a singer, a musician, and a grand storyteller. He was known for being able to fix or restore almost anything old, bringing it back to its original look. He loved fiercely, especially his late wife of almost 60 years, Lucille Reese Shriner, and his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Fred was born in Newburg, PA to the late Walter and Elizabeth Shriner. He graduated from Shippensburg State College with a degree in elementary education. He worked his way through college, playing the upright bass while performing in a dance band with Andy Angelucci. After graduation, he was drafted into the army where he served two years in Germany and learned to speak the language fluently to the point that he was mistaken as a Nuremburg native, the town where he learned to speak the language. He came home, taught in Newburg, served as principal in Oakville, and then taught art and many other subjects in the Big Spring School District. He retired from Big Spring after 30 years, and traveled, lived for his wife and family, and continued to turn a shell of a house into an incredible and beautiful historical property.

Fred is survived by his children Gretchen, wife of the late Steve Morrison, Karen and her partner Denise, Daughter in Law Carol, wife of his late son Eric, and Nick and his wife Suzanne. Fred is also survived by grandchildren Grant and his wife Katie, their children Wesley and Reese Morrison, Meredith and Kevin, Andy, Will, Hans, Mary, and Sophia Shriner. He was predeceased by his grandson, Derek Morrison.
