Frances Caroline Dickson Campbell Shaw December 1927-September 2023
Frances was born in Warren, PA to The Rev. Thomas Sinclair Dickson and Barbara (Root) Dickson in 1927, the youngest of four children. The family eventually moved to York, PA, where her father pastored the Presbyterian church until his passing in 1953. She earned a BA at Wilson College in Chambersburg, and her MSW at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. She met John Blake Campbell, Jr. while attending Penn (he also earned a master’s degree there)and the 1st Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia and they married in 1953. He taught elementary school, and she worked in child welfare in Delaware County, PA. Upon retirement she decided they should join her older brother Stuart and his wife at Green Ridge Village in Newville, PA. After several years traveling together, Blake passed in 1999. She was delighted to meet The Rev Donald Shaw at GRV who she married in 2001 and spent several years traveling with. After his passing in 2008 she and her brother were able to spend time traveling together. When she wasn’t traveling she was very involved in volunteer opportunities at the Green Ridge community. She was preceded in death by her husbands Blake and Don, her siblings Stuart, Mary Elizabeth and Doug, two infant sons and her son John. She is survived by her daughter Mary Elizabeth, her grandson Blake, and his family including two great grandchildren, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday December 2, 2023 at 11 AM in Second Presbyterian Church, Carlisle.
