Dr. Marguerite Shirer Bridge died peacefully in her sleep at age 93 , on Jan. 26, 2021.
She is survived by her 3 children, Jeffrey Rankin and his wife, Kathy Rankin, Julie Tamburo and her husband Vince Tamburo, Barbara Smucker and her husband Dennis Smucker. Also survived by her 5 Grandchildren, Rachel Smucker, Megan Smucker and Emily Smucker, Nick Tamburo and Tyler Tamburo, 3 Step Children, Pamela Marcumowski, Timothy Bridge and Brian Bridge. Also survived by her niece, Brenda Shirer and grand niece, Aly Carr. Marguerite was born in Ouagadougou, French West Africa where she lived for the 1st 9 years of her life. Her father worked for the WHO and her mother was a missionary and worked in health care. Marguerite began her undergraduate studies at American University in Washington, D.C. She received a Bachelors Degree ( Cumlaude) from Asbury College and a Masters Degree from Peabody College of Vanderbilt University. She also received a Doctorate from The University of Maryland. She taught school in Indiana , Virginia and Haiti. In Montgomery County, Maryland, she worked for 27 years as a Principal of Highlandview, Olney and Burtonsville Elementary School. Marguerite was very active with National Alliance of the Mentally Ill and served as the Maryland State President for 2 terms and as president of the Howard County Chapter.
She also enjoyed activities with her garden club and book club.
A private family service will be held at Columbia Memorial Park, Clarksville, Md. A Celebration of life will be held in the spring and the date will be announced.
