Doris Jean Burkholder, 87, of Newville passed away Sunday April 14, 2024 in UPMC West Shore.

    She was born October 18, 1936 a daughter of the late Merle and Katherine Palmer.

    Doris was preceded in death by her husband Frank (Gene) Burkholder who passed away June 2, 2003.

    She was a member of the Green Spring First Church of God. Doris was a skilled and valued seamstress creating wedding gowns, dresses, outfits and alterations for many people from the surrounding areas.

    Mrs. Burkholder is survived by two daughters Rose Frey and her husband Steve, and Becky Bender and her husband Randy; one granddaughter Rachel Berger, and three grandsons Ben Kiner, Brett Bender, and Cole Burkholder; one great-grandson Sterling Burkholder, and three sisters Alice Wilson, Joann Sollenberger, and Vickie Jones.

    In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by her son Michael Burkholder.

    A viewing will be held Wednesday April 17, 2024 from 1 – 1:30 PM in the Green Spring First Church of God 1140 Greenspring Road, Newville. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 in the church with Rev. Phil Steele officiating. Burial will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Newville.
