Anne Parr Bowne, 90, of Newville passed away Thursday September 12, 2024 in Green Ridge Village Newville.

   Anne Bowne was born in Pensacola, FL, on July 18, 1934, but lived there for only six months. As an Army “brat” (her father was a career Army officer) she lived in many locations including Korea in 1946. Eventually, the family of mother, father, and three daughters found their way to Alexandria, VA. Here Anne attended high school and graduated in 1952.

    For the next four years, she attended Meredith College in Raleigh, NC. On graduation in 1956, she married Dale Bowne on August 25, 1956. They moved to Pittsburgh where she served as faculty secretary at Western Theological Seminary for three years until 1959. The next four years were spent in New York City. Anne worked in the Registrar's office at Union Seminary for two and a half years and then gave birth to their first child, Susannah, on February 1, 1962.

   The family moved to Grove City, PA, in 1963 where husband Dale joined the Grove City College faculty and they lived until 2001. During those years, Anne gave birth to their second daughter, Elisabeth, On April 1, 1966. She gave much time during the years until 1980 volunteering in the educational and music programs at the Tower Presbyterian Church. In 1980, she received a Masters degree from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary.

   In 1980, Ann assumed the position of Director of Financial Aid at Grove City College and also served as a faculty member in Religion Department. In 1999, she and her husband retired from the college. In 2001, they moved to Green Ridge Village (a retirement community) in Newville, PA.

   After moving to Green Ridge, she directed GRV choral and bell music groups for more than a dozen years. She also participated in the choir and bell groups at the Second Presbyterian Church in Carlisle, PA.

   Anne is survived by her husband, Dale, daughters Susannah Schiller and Elisabeth Woodrich, grandchildren Kristina, Jennifer, Christine, and Jared, and great-grandchildren Amaya and Milo.

   A memorial service will be held Saturday September 21, 2024 at 11 AM in Second Presbyterian Church 528 Garland Drive Carlisle.
