Capt. Robert Reginald Hamer, Jr. USN Retired passed away Friday, June 28, 2019, in Green Ridge Village, Newville, PA.
He was born March 15, 1927, in Harrisburg, PA, the son of the late Robert R., Sr., and Catherine Pellow Hamer.
He is survived by his wife Karen Howard Hamer.
He was a 1944 Graduate of William Penn High School, then joined the U.S. Navy during WWII. After the war he went to the U.S. Naval Academy, graduating in1950. He was Commander of the submarine U.S.S. Grenadier. During his career he served at various U.S. Embassies. He retired as Captain in 1978.
He was a member of the Big Spring Presbyterian Church, Newville, PA, and played trombone in the Grafton, VT, and Shippensburg, PA town bands.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Anne F. Carter, of West River, MD, and Roberta Hamer and her partner Lynne, of Jonestown, PA; three grandchildren, Andrew Bosworth, Allison Bosworth Fiut, (Jeff), and Spencer Bosworth; and one great-grandson Gordon Fiut.
He was preceded in death by his sister Alice H. Schmidt.
A memorial service with Rev. Barbara Albert officiating will be held Monday, July 1, 2019, at 10 AM in Green Hall Conference Room, Green Ridge Village. A graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family in Houghtonville Cemetery, Grafton, VT.
