Richard Lee Gutshall

    Richard Lee (Dick) Gutshall, 89, of Newville, passed peacefully from this life to the next early Saturday, May 11, 2019, surrounded by his loving family at UPMC Pinnacle Carlisle.

     Born November 21, 1929, to the late Loreda C. Gutshall, Dick grew up with his many cousins on Gutshall R Valley Farms in Newville. He was a lifetime member of Center Evangelical Lutheran Church. He proudly served his country in the US Army from 1954-1956. Dick knew the value of hard work on the farm, but his favorite thing was to tease and joke with his family and friends. His sense of humor and easygoing disposition made him a joy to be around.

    Dick is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Jane Gutshall; a daughter, Susan D. (James) Zimmerman; a son, Michael W. (Debra) Gutshall; and 6 grandchildren, Matthew J. (Ericka) Zimmerman; Mark J. Zimmerman, Melody S. (Rick) Zary, Michael A.J. (Amy) Zimmerman, M. Scott (Stacy) Gutshall, and Pamela (John) Martz. In addition, he adored his 8 great-grandchildren Wyatt, Zoey, Makaylin, Claire, Ashlyn, Penelope, David, and Olivia.

    A viewing will be held Tuesday May 14, 2019 from 1 to 2 PM in Center Evangelical Lutheran Church. A funeral service will follow in the church with Rev. Dr. Brenda Kiser officiating.  Burial will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery.

    Egger Funeral Home will handle the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Center Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1498 Center Road, Newville, PA 17241.
