John A. Brandt, of Newville, died peacefully on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 in UPMC Pinnacle, Carlisle at the age of 87.
He was born December 27, 1930 in Newville. He was the son of the late Samuel L. and Amy K. Failor Brandt.
Mr. Brandt is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 64 years, Lucretia M. Burkholder Brandt.
He served in the US Army during the Korean War. He had owned and operated Brandt’s Orchards, and retired as an Industrial Supervisor from Letterkenny Army Depot.
He had belonged to Mt. Hope United Methodist Church. He served as president of both the Mifflin Athletic Association, and Camp Gnat Hunting Club. He was also a proud member of the NRA.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children; Joyce Walters and her husband, Joe of Newville, Dennis Brandt and his wife, Patricia of Carlisle, Karen Brandt and her husband, Michael Burns of Fairfield; one sister, Shirley Drexler of Shippensburg; 9 adoring grandchildren and 14 treasured great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by two brothers, Dale and Robert Brandt.
A viewing will be held Saturday, September 29, 2018 from 10 to 11 am at Mt. Hope United Methodist Church, Whiskey Run Road, Newville. A funeral service will be held at 11 am, Saturday at the church with Rev. Roger Yoder and Samuel Brandt officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery.
