Janice Sara Zurlo

    Janice Zurlo, a 43-year resident of Basking Ridge, NJ died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday the 24th of March 2018 at Green Ridge Village in Newville, PA.

    Born in 1939 in Oneonta, NY, to Ethel and Gerald Hewlett. Janice graduated from Glens Falls High School and then studied nursing at Plattsburg State Teachers College in NY.

    Janice married Dominick A. Zurlo, Jr. on July 18, 1959 at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Glens Falls, NY and they shared 58 wonderful years together.

    Together, they were blessed with five children, fifteen grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Grammy loved them all dearly. In her words, “They are all precious to me.” Her warm smile and loving personality formed lasting friendships in their many homes in Georgia, Maine, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. They especially enjoyed time spent with family at their beautiful lake house in PA.

    Janice was a dedicated parishioner at St. James Catholic Church in Basking Ridge, NJ where she was a member of the Rosary Altar Society, St. James Helping Hands Ministry, a CYO adult advisor, and a volunteer art teacher at St. James School. She was especially dedicated to her grandchildren through her treasured special days, sweet treats, care packages, and smiles and hugs. Janice loved to read and craft and was a true woman of service, always putting others first.

    Janice is survived by her loving husband, Dominick; her children Cathi (James) Ritter of Bloomfield, CT, Dominick (Mary) Zurlo, III of Washington, NJ, Mary (James) Corbet of Basking Ridge, NJ, Lisa (Bob) Bacigalupo of Westerville, OH, and Paul (Amy) Zurlo of Chatham, NJ. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters-in-law (Virginia and Helen Marie), and 9 nieces and nephews.

    Janice is predeceased by her parents, her brother Roger, sister Christine, nephew Jonathan and brother-in laws Ted and George.

    A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. James Catholic Church, 184 South Finley Avenue, Basking Ridge, NJ on Monday, April 2 at 11:00 AM. A private interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
