Frances Jane Allen died July 6, 2017 at the age of 96. Born February 27, 1921, she was the only daughter of Ray and Caroline Hartzell. After her mother's early death, Jane was lovingly raised by her maternal grandparents, Joshua and Fannie Clouse and her father.

     A lifelong Newville resident, Jane graduated from Newville High School, Class of 1938. She was married to Abram “Spencer” Allen for 47 years, until his death in 1990. They had four children. Spencer “Ray” (deceased May 2015, Carol); Avis; Jon; and Jana (Rick) Lay. Surviving are five grandchildren: Scott Moyer; Hillary Auker; Angela Facchinei; Jessica Chestnut; Derrick Lay; and ten great-grandchildren: Rachel; Chrissy; Garrett; Joseph; Madelyn; Grant; Olivia; Laylah; Paiten; Paxtyn.

     Family and friends were Jane's passion and delight. She was a member of First Church of God, Newville; Oswald-Taylor Chapter #540 Order of Eastern Star; and volunteered as an election official. Jane was a talented Knitter, seamstress, and cook. She hosted daily coffee socials for many years.

    A graveside service will be held on July 11, at 10 AM, at Spring Hill Cemetery, Shippensburg.
