Dorothy “Dottie” M. Crider Nickel, 88, of Newville died Saturday July 15, 2017 in Carlisle Regional Medical Center.

She was born April 19, 1929 in Franklin County PA the daughter of Charles W. and Anna Mary Hock Crider.

Mrs. Nickel is preceded in death by her husband Cameron A. Nickel and her son Paul E. Nickel.

She had worked in the cafeteria at Big Spring High School. She belonged to Zion Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School for 40 years, she belonged to the Lutheran Belles, and volunteered at Green Ridge Village.

She is survived by two sons David A. Nickel and his wife Sherri of Dayton, OH, and Jay A. Nickel and his wife Kathy of Anacoco, LA; one daughter in-law Cheryl Nickel of Plainfield; 8 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren; five sisters Anna Gettle, Velva Wingert, Cora Alleman, Sarah Brubaker, and Fern Grove. In addition to her husband and son she is preceded in death by four brothers John, Monroe, Abram, and Irvin Crider, and two sisters Mary Musser, and Esther Strite.

A visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11 AM Wednesday July 19, 2017 in Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church 51 W. Main St. Newville. A memorial service will be held at 11 AM in the Church with the Rev. Amy Wagner officiating. Burial will follow in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens Carlisle.
