John E. Holtry Sr., 83, of Newville and formerly of Newberrytown, passed away Saturday April 6, 2024 in his home surrounded by his family.
He was born August 5, 1940 in Carlisle a son of the late Eber James and Pearl Hollenbaugh Holtry.
John is preceded in death by his first wife Barbara Wright Holtry, and is survived by his second Hazel M. Norman Holtry.
He had served in the U.S. Navy from 1958-1963. John had worked as a hydraulic mechanic for Henkels McCoy, and retired in 2002. He loved metal fabricating and could make anything with a piece of steel. John belonged to the Doubling Gap Church of God, he loved spending time with his family, and grandchildren. He also enjoyed hunting and riding motorcycle.
In addition to his wife Hazel, he is survived by two sons John Holtry Jr., and his wife Laurie, and Mike Holtry; three daughters Beverly Holtry, Genevieve Rohrbaugh (Holtry), and Tina Wright; two step-daughters Sally Snyder and Susan Hollifield; 15 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren; three brothers Eber “Jim” Holtry, Paul Holtry, and Charlie Holtry; and three sisters Betsy Graham, Laurel Norman, and Katie Wells.
In addition to his parents and first wife he is preceded in death by one son Theodore Holtry, and two sisters Mary Weigle, and Nellie Draper (Holtry).
A viewing will be held Saturday April 13, 2024 from 1-3 PM in Doubling Gap Church of God 50 McCrea Road Newville. A funeral service will follow in the church at 3 PM with Pastor Donald Snyder officiating. Military Honors will follow the service.
