Robert D. Baker, 71, of Newville passed away to his Eternal Home on December 15, 2017 at UPMC Harrisburg Hospital.

    He was born October 27, 1946 in Newville, the son of the late Dean M. and Emma M. (Negley) Baker.

    A loving and devoted husband and father, he is survived by his wife of 49 years, Beverly A. (Giordano) Baker, a son Robert Jr. (wife Rebecca) daughter Rebecca Hoke (husband James). He was the proud Pappy of Emily and Bryce Baker, Colton and Amanda Hoke, and Latisha Edenbo (husband AJ) and PapPap to Zackary and Mikayla Edenbo. In addition, he is survived by two brothers, Donald (wife Judy) and Galen (wife Ruby) and one sister Nancy Baker.

    Bob graduated from Big Spring High School in 1964 as class vice-president and graduated from West Liberty State College. He taught mathematics at Big Spring High School District for 32 years, retiring in 1999 where he was also head baseball coach for 37 years. He also coached football, basketball and the Newville American Legion Baseball team.

    Not only a teacher and coach, Bob was a part-time electrician and farmer. He loved the outdoor activities especially vacationing and camping with family.

    Bob was an active member of Mount Hope United Methodist Church. He had served many years as treasurer of the church and Mifflin Athletic Association.

    A visitation will be held in Mount Hope United Methodist Church, Whiskey Run Road Newville, Thursday December 21, 2017 from 12 to 2 PM. A funeral service with Rev. Lisa Klinger officiating will be held in the church Thursday at 2. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
