 Palmer Allen Quarles Jr., 95, of Newville passed away peacefully Sunday January 22, 2017, surrounded by his family and friends.

He was born June 19, 1921 in Amarillo, TX the son of Palmer Allen and Jessie Goodman Quarles Sr.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years Jeanette Elizabeth Donaldson Quarles, and is survived by his wife of 10 years Frances Skillman Quarles.

He graduated from the United States Naval Academy, class of 1944, and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, the Korean War, and the Cuban Blockade. He had served as a pilot, a gunnery officer, and a supply officer. He retired as a Commander. He then worked as a Supply Distribution Supervisor for Mobile Oil, in Valley Forge, PA.

He was a member of the American Legion, and the Naval Academy Alumni Association. He loved fishing, boating, and genealogy. He was a very generous man and loved his family very much.

In addition to his wife he is survived by three sons Robert A. Quarles and his wife Rita B. Quarles of Columbia, MD, J. Richard Quarles of Mechanicsburg, and J. Steven Quarles and his wife Marsha Quarles of Lewisburg, PA; five grandchildren Brian R. Quarles, Kelly I. Quarles, Christopher J. Quarles, Caitlin McGrellis, and Jackson Howard; and eight great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his sister Ernestine Wright.

A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date. Interment will be at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD.
