Linda B. Smith, 97, of Shippensburg died Monday January 2, 2017 in her nieces’ home, in Carlisle.

She was born April 11, 1919 in Logan County, Oklahoma the daughter of James A. and Kate Baird Baty.

Mrs. Smith is preceded in death by her husband Robert J. Smith who died September 2, 1990.

She was a 1941 graduate of Central State University in Oklahoma, and had worked as an elementary teacher. She was a member of the Church of Christ, in Carlisle.

She is survived by one daughter Evelyn Giray of CA; two grandchildren; one sister Edna Yinger; two brothers-in-law William J. Heiser, and Roy K. Spangler; five nieces and fourteen nephews.

She was preceded in death by four sisters Blanche Baty, Eva Baty, Erma Heiser, Mary Spangler, and three brothers Owen Baty, Loren Baty, and Clyde Baty.

A funeral service will be held Saturday January 7, 2017 at 11 AM in the Church of Christ 971 Walnut Bottom Road, Carlisle. A visitation will be held in the church from 10 to 11 AM Saturday. Burial will follow in Centerville Memorial Gardens, Newville.
