Jackie Hoke Richards passed away January 29, 2018 at home in Green Ridge Village, Newville, PA.
She was born in York, PA on June 18, 1947 to Leroy Hoke and RuthAnna Hershey Hoke who predeceased her.
She is survived by her husband, James Richards, two daughters, Stefanie Richards of Moline IL and Janna Richards of Geneseo, IL, three grandchildren, Katlynn McVey, Caley Jean McVey and Nathan Richards-Hay of Illinois, her sisters Beth Robertson (Tim) of Strattanville, PA and Nancy Grove (Kent) of Wrightsville, her brother Kenneth Hoke (Pat) of Kennesaw GA, two nephews, one niece, and one grand-nephew.
Jackie graduated from Dallastown High School in 1965, Millersville University in 1968 and Pittsburgh Theological Seminary in 1985 with a Masters degree in Christian Education. She and her husband shared ministries in various Presbyterian churches in Pennsylvania, Illinois, Maryland, Indiana and New Jersey for over 30 years. She was also an ordained Deacon in the PCUSA. Her last position was as a docent for the Emlen Physick estate in Cape May, New Jersey. Jackie's major ministry interests were working with the disadvantaged, ministry to migrants and teaching English as a second language. Her great passion was genealogy and she is descended from some of the earliest settlers in Lancaster, York, Cumberland, and Perry counties. She was also an accomplished photographer and she will be remembered for her wry sense of humor and love of history.
Her funeral service will be at Big Spring United Lutheran Church, Newville PA February 17, 2018 at 11 AM with the Rev. Richard Michael officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
