Ellis E. Worthington, 83, of Newville died Friday February 17, 2017 in the Chambersburg Hospital.

He was born November 22, 1933 on his family farm, where he lived all his life. He was the son of Mark R. and Maggie Gamble Worthington.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years Edna G. Gettel Worthington who he married September 21, 1957.

He was a life long farmer, and had served in Philadelphia as a conscientious objector.

Mr. Worthingotn was a member of the Ridge Church of the Brethren, where he was a Lifetime Deacon of the Church, taught Sunday School for 50 years, and served on many commissions within the church. He was also a Gideon. He loved hunting, being with his family and friends, and always loved joking around with others.

In addition to his wife he is survived by one sister Grace Shughart of Carlisle; one daughter Carol Lamason and her husband John of Newville; one granddaughter Andrea Widders and her husband Dave of Carlisle, two great grandchildren Luke and Gracie Lemmon, and their father Bruce Lemmon Jr.; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by one sister Clara Dyarman, and one brother Russell Gamble.

A viewing will be held Wednesday February 22, 2017 from 6 to 8 PM in the Ridge Church of the Brethren, Shippensburg. And on Thursday February 23, from 10 to 11 AM. A funeral service will follow at 11 AM in the church with the Rev. Clarence Stouffer, Rev. Darlene Stouffer and Rev. Earl Stovall officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
